So the repairman just told you that your heat or air cannot be repaired. Suddenly, you find it a little harder to breathe – and there are dollar signs flashing before your eyes.  Replacing your system is a big purchase, and can definitely seem overwhelming. But, it might not be as scary as you think. When choosing a new heating and air conditioning system, R.O.I. (Return On Investment) should be at the top of your checklist.

When it is time to replace your current system, YOU are in the driver’s seat.  It is your home and your comfort.  And, your investment.

Weighing the options

All homes are not created equal!  Some are large, some are small, and some are in between.  Some homes are very efficient, and some homes leak air like a sieve!

There are many factors that go in to choosing the best heating and air set up for each individual home.

As I go through all of the options with homeowners, we can determine which choice is best for their situation.

For instance, a couple of ’empty nesters’ with a medium sized home do not generally need to go with the most efficient equipment on the market today.  That would simply be a waste of their money.  More than likely, a 14 seer unit – the lowest efficiency unit manufactured for residential use – would be about 30% to 40% more efficient than what is currently installed.  I would advise the homeowner to spend less money on the system and put a little extra toward improvements such as better insulation, weather stripping, and just generally tightening up the home.  This would net them the largest R.O.I.

Another homeowner may have a large home with more than a couple of people living there.  They might be better served by replacing their existing system with a more efficient system.  A larger home paired with more people creates a larger demand on the system, which leads to a higher R.O.I. provided by more efficient equipment.

One Size Fits All…?

Remember, one size doesn’t fit all, and neither does one efficiency!  When considering a new system, take the time to address any issues that your home may have with dust, odors, allergens, or humidity.  Today’s equipment is more advanced than ever before, so be sure that when you are considering your investment that it is tailored to fit your needs!  And gives you the best Return On Investment.
